Dear Anyone,
I'm 24 years old. I have been working in the insurance business since I was 18. I have been the Office Manager for my current employer for the past 4 years. I'm an important asset to my boss--she has expressed that to me many times. My boss has become very dependant on me. She never comes in, and leaves everthing up to me. I've done an excellent job.
Now the problem: her kids are spoiled brats who have everything handed to them. They have never had to work for anything in their lives. So anyways, her daughter starts working here, and doesn't make an effort to learn the business. She is very lazy, kind of immature, and has a very bad attitude. For being 30, she acts 16. Finally, after 2 months, I couldn't take it anymore. She would never take orders from me. She figured, "Hey, I'm the boss' daughter. I don't have to listen to anyone." I approached her asked her what the problem was, and she totally flipped and she started yelling at me and walked out saying I was nobody to tell her what to do.
That made me realize, "What kind of future do I have here?" So I started looking into what I need to start my own agency. I have everything I need minus one State License and some money I need as capital. I told my boss this is what I want to do. Suddenly her mood changed. She expressed to me many times before if I ever wanted to do this she would support me. Well, she didn't take it well. She wants me to stay. She said eventually I can have the businees but give the kids there cut every month. I don't want to do that. Now I feel bad. What should I do? Should I continue with my goal.... or should I settle?
