Dear Anyone,

I run my own business, and I lease a small office. Recently, I’ve grown to the point where I’ve decided to hire a receptionist / office assistant. I’ve interviewed a few candidates so far (all female — no men have applied), and they can be lumped into two general camps: (1) older and more experienced, but not particularly well put together, and (2) younger and very green, but very well put together and attractive. I work in the building supply field, and many of the offices I go to seem to have young attractive female receptionists. Being a very small business, I need to entrust a lot of duties to my employee, including some bookkeeping, and I just don’t know if a young employee can handle it. Younger applicants are also cheaper, but maybe you get what you pay for. On the other hand, an attractive receptionist might be a boon for business. Any thoughts out there?

WHAT'S YOUR ADVICE?

Vote for Option A
A:  You’re describing the extremes. There must be a moderately experienced, moderately attractive person you can hire.
Vote for Option B
B:  Go with experience. If you want someone who can run the office without having to be babysat, you’d better go with older and wiser.
Vote for Option C
C:  A little hottie at reception will bring in business. That’s worth a few rookie mistakes around the office.
Vote for Option D
D:  Anyone who votes for answer C is a pig.
